The KENNAMETAL 5431702 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in metric applications. It cuts an M4x0.7 thread profile to a 6H class of fit using a 2-flute, plug chamfer geometry that pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone. The tap is manufactured from HSS-E (high-speed steel with cobalt) and finished with an oxide coating to improve lubrication retention and reduce galling during cutting. The overall length is 2.125 inches with a thread length of 0.38 inches. Material grade is KSP39. This is a right-hand tap suited for production and precision threading work performed by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians.
The 5431702 is built for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. Its spiral point geometry makes it well suited for CNC tapping operations and production runs where chip evacuation is critical. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in, making it appropriate for through-holes where the tap can exit the far side of the workpiece. This tap is used in general manufacturing, fabrication shops, and maintenance environments where metric M4 fastener threads are required.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. Compatible with standard M4x0.7 metric thread applications following the 6H tolerance class per ISO metric thread standards.
Installation and use of this tap should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping operations. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before beginning the tapping cycle. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the material being threaded, particularly when working with stainless steel. Do not reverse the tap abruptly without confirming the machine or tap handle is rated for back-out torque on the material at hand.
