The KENNAMETAL 5425596 is a round carbide turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for general turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the ANSI designation RNMG32RN and the ISO code RNMG090300RN. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer CVD coating sequence of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process, resulting in the KCP25B grade. This grade delivers moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it well-suited for interrupted and continuous cuts in steel and cast iron. Eight usable cutting edges per insert are available through a neutral-hand, full-radius round shape with a 0.1875-inch corner radius.
The 5425596 targets production and job-shop environments where a single insert geometry must handle roughing and medium machining passes without a toolholder changeover. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron, with the grade also rated for aluminum and non-ferrous materials (ISO N) at moderate to high toughness demands. The RN chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during both heavier roughing passes and mid-range material-removal rates. The insert is held by clamp or pin in any KENLOC-compatible round-insert toolholder.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series round-insert toolholders accepting RNMG32 (ANSI) or RNMG090300 (ISO) inserts with clamp or pin holding. Verify toolholder pocket tolerance code M and clearance code N before installation.
Turning insert replacement is performed by a machinist or tooling technician with the machine in an E-stop or locked-out condition per facility lockout-tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the pocket before torquing the clamping screw or engaging the pin to avoid micro-fracture at the cutting edge. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear, chips, or debris before seating a new insert. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as edge failure under cut can create unsafe projectile conditions.
