The KENNAMETAL 5416956 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in 3/4-16 UNF applications. Built from High-Speed Steel-E (HSS-E) with a triple coating of TiN, CrC, and C, this tap is engineered for durability and extended tool life in demanding materials. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread lead-in, making it well-suited for production threading where consistent thread form and dimensional accuracy are required. With an H3 thread limit and a 3B class of fit, it produces threads to tight tolerances appropriate for precision fastener assemblies. Machinists and tool-room professionals working in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and maintenance environments rely on this series for reliable, repeatable results.
This tap is rated for use in stainless steel and non-ferrous metals, making it a practical choice for aerospace, medical, and general manufacturing applications where these materials are common. The spiral point design pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, which is the correct geometry for through-hole operations where chip evacuation ahead of the cut is essential. It does not support coolant-through delivery. With an overall length of 4.25 inches and a thread length of 1.22 inches, it fits standard tap holders and CNC rigid-tapping setups. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional fastener assembly work.
Designed for through-hole threading of 3/4-16 UNF threads in stainless steel and non-ferrous metal workpieces. Compatible with standard tap holders and rigid-tapping setups that accept a 0.59-inch shank diameter. Produces 3B class threads per UNF thread standards.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist familiar with threading operations and toolholder requirements. Before changing or setting any tap, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Use the correct tap wrench or rigid-tapping chuck rated for the shank diameter; do not exceed the tap's rated application materials or thread size. Always verify spindle speed and feed rate against the material being threaded to prevent tap breakage.
