The KENNAMETAL 5416945 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in industrial and shop environments. Built from High-Speed Steel-E (HSS-E) with a KSP39 material grade and finished with an oxide coating, this tap is engineered for reliable thread cutting in ferrous and hard materials. It features a 5/8-11 UNC thread form, a plug chamfer for guided entry, and a 3-flute spiral point geometry that pushes chips forward through the hole. The 2B class of fit and H5 thread limit provide consistent, on-tolerance threads suitable for general-purpose fastener applications. Machinists and toolroom technicians will find this tap well suited to production environments where thread quality and tool life matter.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading operations in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The spiral point style is appropriate for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping operations where chip evacuation out the front of the hole is preferred. The plug chamfer provides 3 to 5 threads of lead, making it suitable for starting in a pre-drilled through hole. Right-hand thread direction matches standard fastener orientation. The T820 series designation identifies the product family within the KENNAMETAL tap line. This tap does not support coolant-through delivery.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. Compatible with standard 5/8-11 UNC thread specifications per ASME B1.1. Suitable for use in CNC machining centers and manual tapping setups that accommodate a 0.48-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists or toolroom technicians. Before tapping, ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pre-drilled hole is sized to the correct tap drill diameter for 5/8-11 UNC threads. Use a cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. Do not reverse the tap under power without confirming the machine supports synchronized tapping cycles, as back-threading without proper control can damage threads or break the tool.
