The KENNAMETAL 5416932 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in a wide range of metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel-E (HSS-E) to the T820 series standard, this tap carries a dual TiCN and TiN coating that extends tool life and reduces friction during cutting. It cuts a 1/2-20 UNF right-hand thread to a 3B class of fit with an H3 thread limit, making it well-suited for production environments where tight tolerance and consistent thread quality are required. Machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople working on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metal components are the primary users of this tap.
This tap is suited for through-hole applications in both job-shop and production machining settings. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in that makes it practical for through-hole work on moderate-to-hard workpiece materials. The spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the tap rather than packing them into the flute, making it effective on CNC machining centers and manual drill presses where chip evacuation is a priority. Typical installations include threaded fastener holes in structural steel components, stainless steel fabrications, and cast iron housings.

This tap is installed and driven by licensed machinists or qualified tool operators using standard tap holders, floating tap chucks, or rigid tapping attachments on CNC machining centers or drill presses. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before engaging the tap. Confirm correct tap drill size for 1/2-20 UNF prior to threading to achieve the intended thread engagement percentage. Follow shop safety procedures and applicable OSHA machining standards when operating rotating cutting tools.
