The KENNAMETAL 5416882 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading operations in metalworking applications. Built from HSS-E (High-Speed Steel-E) with an oxide coating, this tap carries a 1/4-28 UNF thread specification with a right-hand thread direction and a plug chamfer for standard entry into pre-drilled through-holes. The H5 thread limit provides controlled tolerancing suitable for precision threaded connections. With a 2.5-inch overall length and a 0.625-inch thread length, this tap is sized for compact fastener applications common in fabrication, maintenance, and machine shop work. It is sold individually and belongs to the T820 series, Kennametal material grade KSP39.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, making it well suited for through-hole applications where chip evacuation is a priority. It is used in manual tapping, CNC machining centers, and drill press setups where consistent thread quality across production or repair runs is required. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians working in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and MRO environments are the primary users of this tool.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. Compatible with standard 1/4-28 UNF tapping applications where an H5 thread limit and spiral point geometry are specified.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and cutting fluid requirements for the workpiece material. Always ensure the spindle and work holding are secure before beginning the tapping cycle. Use appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the material being threaded — especially critical when working with stainless steel. Do not reverse the tap under power without confirming the machine is set for reverse tapping cycles to avoid tool breakage.
