The KENNAMETAL 5413747 is a solid carbide round turning insert in the Rodeka series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the KC725M grade designation, this insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating that extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The round (RNPJ) insert geometry provides a 360-degree included angle with a 12 mm (0.4724 inches) inscribed circle, a negative rake configuration, and a 0-degree relief angle. Insert holding is via screw clamp. Eight usable cutting edges per insert contribute to a low cost-per-edge profile, making this insert a practical choice for production turning environments.
The 5413747 is suited for turning steel (P20, P30), stainless and heat-resistant alloys (M15, M25), and high-temperature superalloys (S-grade materials). The PVD TiAlN and TiN coating resists heat buildup and adhesive wear when cutting these primary workpiece material groups. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning passes on CNC turning centers in both job shop and production manufacturing settings. The Rodeka series geometry, paired with the J chip breaker designation, handles moderate-to-interrupted cuts on ductile workpiece materials. Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating procedure when securing the clamp screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp seat for chips or debris before seating a new edge.
