The KENNAMETAL 5413292 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and manual turning machines. It carries the VBMT331LF designation, indicating a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and an LF chip breaker geometry optimized for light-to-medium finishing cuts. The insert is coated with a multilayer MTCVD system — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN — using the KCP25B grade, which balances wear resistance and toughness for steel and cast iron applications. Cutting edge style is honed with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and the insert mounts via screw-on holding method. Two cutting edges are available per insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations in ISO material groups P (steel) and K (cast iron). It fits residential and industrial production environments where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to standard right-hand turning toolholders accepting VBMT-style inserts. Maximum depth of cut is 0.090 inches (2.29 mm), making it appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes rather than heavy roughing.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-production insert for VBMT-style screw-on turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Compatible with applications targeting steel and cast iron workpiece materials per ISO P and K designations. Material grades C2, C3, C6, and C7 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque for the screw-on clamping screw — refer to the toolholder documentation for the correct fastener spec. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and accurate edge positioning.
