Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 5413189 is a solid carbide turning insert with a multilayer CVD coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN. It carries the ANSI insert code CPMT3252 and ISO code CPMT09T308. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 12 degrees, and an 11-degree relief angle. The KCP25B grade delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness, making it well suited for steel and cast iron applications. A honed cutting edge style and the MP chip breaker geometry support roughing and medium machining operations. Installation uses a screw-on holding method, and the insert provides two cutting edges per piece.

This insert is used in CNC and manual turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. It is appropriate for both roughing and medium-duty passes in production and job-shop environments. The KCP25B grade is rated for steel (P) and aluminum and non-ferrous (N) workpiece material groups, covering moderate wear resistance through high toughness demands. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians typically specify this insert for external and internal turning applications where consistent chip control and edge life are required.

Key Features

  • 80-degree diamond (C-shape) insert geometry with positive rake for reduced cutting forces
  • Multilayer CVD coating: TiCN, Al2O3, TiOCN for extended tool life on steel and cast iron
  • MP chip breaker optimized for roughing and medium machining operations
  • Screw-on insert holding method for secure, repeatable indexing
  • Two cutting edges per insert maximize value per piece
  • Neutral hand orientation compatible with standard CPMT-style toolholders

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for CPMT-style screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for CPMT3252 and CPMT09T308 insert seats.

Installation Notes

This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician using the appropriate screw-on torx or hex key per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is removed from the turret or tool post before indexing or replacing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure.
