The KENNAMETAL 5413178 is a solid carbide turning insert with an ANSI designation of CNMG543MN and ISO code CNMG160612MN, designed for high-productivity metal cutting in turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process, delivering high wear resistance on steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting geometry. With 4 usable cutting edges and an MN chip breaker, this insert is suited for roughing and medium machining passes on steel and cast iron workpieces.
This insert fits into the KENLOC series toolholding system and is used in CNC lathes and turning centers for external turning, facing, and boring operations. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry (clearance code N, tolerance code M) supports stable, high-feed cutting on steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO N) materials. The MN chip breaker is optimized for roughing to medium machining, making this insert a practical choice for production turning environments where consistent chip control and wear life are priorities. Installation requires a compatible KENLOC-style toolholder that accepts CNMG-style inserts with clamp or pin holding.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept CNMG-style inserts with clamp or pin holding. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO N) workpieces. Multi-use application across turning center and CNC lathe setups.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamp or pin to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for seating integrity before resuming operation.
