The KENNAMETAL 5403093 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG433MR geometry, grade KCM15, designed for precision metal removal in CNC turning, facing, and boring applications. The insert features a multilayer MTCVD TiCN and Al2O3 coating for elevated wear resistance and thermal stability under continuous cutting loads. With an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and a negative rake angle, it delivers stable, predictable cutting performance. The 0.5-inch inscribed circle diameter and 0.047-inch corner radius suit medium to heavy stock removal passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of a KENLOC toolholder system on production lathes and machining centers.
This insert is engineered for roughing and medium machining operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The KCM15 grade balances moderate wear resistance with toughness, making it appropriate for interrupted cuts and variable-depth passes common in job-shop and production turning environments. It is equally capable in facing and boring cycles where a neutral-hand insert geometry is preferred. Four available cutting edges extend tool life per insert, reducing cost per part across high-volume runs.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting CNMG433 geometry inserts. Conforms to ANSI insert code CNMG433 and ISO insert code CNMG120412. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down the machine and verify the spindle is fully stopped before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamp or locking pin according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications before resuming cuts. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping or coating breakdown at regular intervals to maintain part quality and avoid toolholder damage.
