The KENNAMETAL 5403018 is a CNMG432MR turning insert in the KCM35 grade, designed for indexable tooling systems used in CNC turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and features a multilayer CVD coating consisting of TiN, MT-TiCN, and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process. This combination delivers high toughness on steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness when cutting stainless steel. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting geometry, and the MR chip breaker is rated for roughing and medium machining. Machining technicians and CNC operators working in production environments install these inserts into KENLOC-style toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. The KCM35 grade targets ISO P and M workpiece material categories, making it a practical choice for general production machining and interrupted or variable-condition cuts where toughness is a priority. The negative rake geometry and honed cutting edge contribute to edge stability under heavier chip loads. The neutral hand orientation provides installation flexibility across right- and left-hand toolholder setups.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series indexable toolholders that accept CNMG432 inserts held by clamp or pin methods. Compatible with ANSI insert code CNMG432 and ISO insert code CNMG120408.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the KENLOC toolholder to secure the insert; do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's guidelines for clamp or pin retention to ensure proper insert contact and repeatability.
