The KENNAMETAL 5402980 is a DNMG432MR turning insert in grade KCP25B, designed for single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and negative rake geometry. It is manufactured from solid carbide and coated via MTCVD with a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN stack, placing it in Coating Classification CVD. The KCP25B grade targets steel and cast iron workpiece materials, delivering moderate wear resistance combined with toughness. The MR chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining operations. Four usable cutting edges and compatibility with clamp-and-pin holding make this insert a practical choice for production turning environments.
This insert fits the KENLOC toolholder system and is suited for steel (ISO material group P) and aluminum and non-ferrous materials (ISO material group N). Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on both ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in residential shop, job shop, and production machining environments. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators working to ANSI and ISO insert standards. The 1/4 inch maximum depth of cut supports aggressive material removal in roughing passes as well as controlled medium-finish cuts.
Designed for use in KENLOC-style toolholders accepting DNMG-style inserts with clamp or pin holding. Conforms to ANSI insert code DNMG432 and ISO insert code DNMG150408. Suitable for steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials per ISO material groups P and N.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate KENLOC clamp or pin-lock toolholder hardware to achieve proper insert seating; never force an insert into a holder with a worn or damaged pocket. Verify cutting edge orientation and chip breaker position against the toolholder setup sheet before resuming cuts.
