The KENNAMETAL 5402969 is a DNMG150408MR turning insert in grade KCP10B, designed for precision metal removal in CNC turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process, delivering high wear resistance on steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting geometry, and the MR chip breaker is rated for roughing through medium machining. With four usable cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is a cost-effective consumable for production turning environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production facilities use this insert for general turning applications.
This insert is suited for primary workpiece materials including steel and cast iron (ISO material group P) as well as aluminum and non-ferrous materials (ISO material group N). The KENLOC series insert is held in place using a clamp or pin method and is compatible with toolholders designed for DNMG-style negative rake inserts. The MR chip breaker geometry handles a maximum depth of cut of 0.25 inches (6.35 mm), making it appropriate for medium to heavy stock removal passes. It conforms to both ANSI standard code DNMG432 and ISO standard code DNMG150408MR.
Designed for use in DNMG-style negative rake toolholders that accept KENLOC series inserts with clamp or pin holding methods, conforming to ANSI insert code DNMG432 and ISO insert code DNMG150408. Compatible with toolholders rated for 55-degree diamond inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified hardware when seating the clamp or pin to avoid insert rocking or premature breakage. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation, as contamination can cause insert instability and poor surface finish.
