The KENNAMETAL 5402938 is a WNMG432MR KCP25B grade solid carbide turning insert designed for external turning, facing, and boring operations. It features a multilayer MTCVD coating system - TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN - that provides moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The insert has an 80-degree trigon shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.0313 inch corner radius, and 6 cutting edges with a negative rake and neutral hand orientation. It belongs to Kennametal's KENLOC series and is held by clamp or pin methods. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops or production environments will recognize this as a capable general-purpose turning grade.
This insert is suited for roughing and medium machining applications on steel (ISO P) and aluminum or non-ferrous materials (ISO N) where moderate wear resistance combined with toughness is required. The MR chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during interrupted or continuous cuts at moderate feed rates. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing passes on chucked workpieces, and boring on CNC lathes and turning centers. Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and all motion is locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker geometry for damage before each use; do not run a chipped or cracked insert.
