The KENNAMETAL 5397504 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM Plus series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and stainless steel applications. The tip carries the KCPM45 manufacturer grade with a fine-grain solid carbide construction and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for thermal resistance and extended tool life. With a 1.25-inch (31.75 mm) cutting diameter and a 140-degree drill point angle, it is engineered for precision entry and stable cutting forces. The HPG insert geometry and helical flute design combine to control chip evacuation in demanding drilling cycles. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shop and production environments are the primary installers of this tooling.
This replaceable tip drill is suited for drilling operations in steel and stainless steel workpieces across both job shop and production floor environments. The through-coolant capability supports minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) as well as standard through-coolant delivery, making it viable for high-speed, deep-hole cycles and stacked plate drilling. It also handles inclined exit surfaces, a common challenge in structural and fabrication work. The KSEM Plus system uses a clamp-style insert holding method with an insert seat size of 8, allowing quick tip changes at the machine without full tool removal.
Designed as an OEM replaceable tip for the KSEM Plus platform, compatible with KSEM insert seat size 8 holders. Primary workpiece material codes P (steel) and M (stainless steel). ISO number KSEM1250HPG.
Replaceable tip drills of this type are installed and changed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always de-energize the machine and engage the spindle lock before seating or removing the carbide tip. Use the correct torque key for the KSEM clamp system and verify tip seating before resuming operation. Confirm coolant pressure and flow rate are within the machine tool and toolholder specifications before starting the cut.
