The KENNAMETAL 5397498 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for use in KSEM Plus modular drill bodies. Built to ISO number KSEM1031HPG, this tip carries a solid carbide construction with a fine grain material grade and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. The cutting diameter measures 1-1/32 inches (1.0311 inches / 26.19 mm), and the drill point geometry features a 140-degree included angle with a standard point type. The HPG insert geometry and two-flute helical flute design support efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting performance in demanding applications. Installation uses a clamp-style insert holding method, and through-coolant capability supports both flood and MQL (minimum quantity lubricant) delivery strategies.
This replaceable tip is intended for metalworking applications in steel and stainless steel workpieces, covering P and M material groups. The tip is suited for a range of drilling scenarios including standard through-hole drilling, inclined entry and exit conditions, and stacked plate drilling. It is typically installed by machinists and tool-crib technicians in CNC machining centers and turning centers where modular drill systems are used to reduce changeover time and maintain consistent hole quality across production runs.
Designed for use with KSEM Plus series modular drill bodies accepting insert seat size 6. ISO designation KSEM1031HPG identifies the compatible body interface. Verify seat size and series designation against the drill body before ordering.
Replaceable tip drills of this type are installed and serviced by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the spindle before removing or seating the tip. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamping tool specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the tip clamp — do not use improvised tools that may damage the seating pocket. Confirm coolant passages are clear and aligned before returning the assembly to service.
