The KENNAMETAL 5397485 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM Plus series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and stainless steel applications. The tip carries the ISO designation KSEM2100HPGM and is manufactured from fine-grain solid carbide in grade KCPM45, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process. The 140-degree drill point angle and HPG insert geometry promote stable entry and reduced thrust force. With a cutting diameter of 21 millimeters and helical fluting, this drill is suited to production-volume drilling where repeatability and tip-swap efficiency matter. Coolant-through capability, including MQL (minimum quantity lubrication) compatibility, supports extended tool life in demanding cuts.
This replaceable tip drill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and turning centers where rigid toolholding and controlled feeds are standard. It is built for drilling into steel and stainless steel workpieces, including inclined-exit and stacked-plate drilling scenarios. The clamp-style insert holding method and 2-flute, 2-margin geometry allow quick tip changes without removing the drill body from the spindle, reducing machine downtime between operations. It is appropriate for job shop and production environments running ISO P and M material groups.
Designed for use with KSEM Plus series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 3. Compatible with ISO P (steel) and ISO M (stainless steel) workpiece materials. Intended for use in rigid CNC setups where through-coolant or MQL delivery is available.
Installation and tip changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a safe, locked-out state. Verify the insert seat is clean and free of chips before seating the tip, as debris under the tip will cause premature failure or runout. Follow the drill body manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw. Confirm coolant-through channels are clear and delivering adequate flow or MQL before commencing drilling operations.
