The KENNAMETAL 5397473 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM Plus series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and stainless steel applications. The drill accepts a solid carbide KCPM45-grade tip with an HPG insert geometry and a TiAlN PVD coating for wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. It has a 140-degree included drill point angle and a 0.6874 inch cutting diameter (17.46 mm). The tip is clamped into an insert seat size 1 body and delivers coolant through the drill via MQL-compatible through-coolant channels. Intended for installation and use by machinists and CNC tooling professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This replaceable tip drill is suited for drilling operations in steel and stainless steel workpieces, covering ISO material groups P and M. Typical applications include standard through-hole drilling, inclined exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling. The two-flute, two-margin helical design with regular spiral geometry supports chip evacuation and dimensional accuracy. Through-coolant capability makes it compatible with minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) and flood coolant setups. It is used in CNC machining centers and similar multi-axis platforms where quick tip replacement reduces downtime compared to solid-shank drill replacement.
Designed for use with KSEM Plus series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 1. The ISO insert number for this tip is KSEM0688HPG. Compatible with ISO material groups P (steel) and M (stainless steel) workpieces.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists following machine-specific lockout procedures before accessing the spindle. Seat the replaceable tip carefully into the insert pocket and tighten the clamping mechanism according to the toolholder manufacturer guidelines to ensure proper seating and runout control. Do not exceed the recommended cutting parameters for the KCPM45 grade in the workpiece material being machined. Verify coolant port alignment when using through-coolant or MQL delivery to maintain chip evacuation performance.
