The KENNAMETAL 5397388 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill designed for high-performance hole-making in steel and stainless steel applications. Part of the KSEM Plus series, this drill features the HPG insert geometry and KCPM45 grade fine-grain carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The included angle measures 140 degrees, and the cutting diameter is 0.5626 inches (14.29 mm). Through-coolant capability supports both flood and minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) strategies. The replaceable tip design reduces tooling cost by allowing tip indexing without replacing the full drill body.
This drill is suited for drilling operations in steel and stainless steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P and M. The KSEM platform supports applications including standard through-hole drilling, inclined exit drilling, and stacked plate drilling. It is installed and operated by machinists and tooling technicians in production machining environments where consistent hole quality and tool economy are priorities. The two-flute, two-margin configuration with helical flute geometry supports chip evacuation and positional accuracy.
Designed for use with KSEM Plus series drill bodies accepting insert seat size B. The replaceable tip ISO number is KSEM0563HPG. Compatible with steel and stainless steel workpiece materials (ISO P and M grades).
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine fully powered down and in a safe state before tip replacement. Use the appropriate torque driver and seating tool specified by the KSEM platform documentation to seat and clamp the tip correctly. Verify coolant passages are clear before resuming operation to ensure through-coolant delivery to the cutting edge. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer guidelines during setup.
