Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 5388112 is a DNMG432RN turning insert in the KENLOC series, ground from solid carbide and finished with a multilayer MTCVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN under the KCP10B grade designation. The insert carries a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle. The cutting edge is chamfered and honed for controlled entry and edge strength. Inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 1.2208 inches, and corner radius is 0.0313 inches (1/32 inch). With four usable cutting edges, the 5388112 delivers a low per-edge cost for high-volume turning operations. It is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators in production turning cells.

The 5388112 is engineered for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K), making it suitable for general-purpose production machining and job-shop work across both materials. The KENLOC series insert holding method uses a clamp and pin system, compatible with standard DNMG toolholders. Maximum depth of cut is 0.2500 inches (6.35 mm). This insert is appropriate for both light finishing and moderate roughing passes within its rated depth range.

Key Features

  • KCP10B grade with multilayer CVD coating: TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN for wear and crater resistance
  • 55-degree diamond insert shape (ISO code DNMG150408RN) with four cutting edges
  • Neutral hand, negative rake geometry with chamfered and honed cutting edge
  • RN chip breaker designation for controlled chip formation across steel and cast iron
  • Compatible with clamp-and-pin KENLOC toolholders; no special hardware required
  • Rated for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring in a single insert style

Compatibility

Designed for use in DNMG-style toolholders that accept the clamp-and-pin (KENLOC) holding method. Industry standard number DNMG432RN and ISO code DNMG150408RN confirm fitment with any holder dimensioned to that insert designation per ANSI and ISO standards.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or indexing the insert. Use the correct torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when engaging the clamp and pin. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating each new cutting edge to prevent rocking and premature edge failure.
