The KENNAMETAL 5388037 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying ISO designation CNMG120408MW and industry standard number CNMG432MW, manufactured under the KENLOC series. It features a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied by MTCVD process, engineered to resist heat and abrasive wear during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert has a diamond 80-degree included angle, a neutral hand orientation, a negative rake geometry with a 5-degree rake angle, and a honed cutting edge style. Four usable cutting edges and a 0.0313-inch corner radius make it well suited for medium-depth turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel and cast iron, covering ISO workpiece material codes P and K. The MW chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-feed passes where controlled chip formation is critical. It fits KENLOC-style toolholders that use clamp-and-pin insert holding, common in production turning cells and job-shop lathes handling both roughing and semi-finishing passes. The insert is rated for a maximum depth of cut of 0.200 inches (5.08 mm) and is sold in a minimum order quantity of 5 pieces.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept CNMG insert style with clamp and pin holding. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel and cast iron workpieces per ISO material codes P and K. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a de-energized, locked-out state per applicable machine safety procedures. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamp and pin; a partially seated insert can fracture under cutting loads. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp components for wear or damage before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Verify toolholder grade and geometry compatibility with ANSI and ISO insert specifications before use.
