The KENNAMETAL 5388032 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal on steel and cast iron workpieces. It carries the ISO designation CCMT32.52LF and is manufactured to ANSI and ISO standards. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating system consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process under the KCP10B grade designation. The 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a honed cutting edge provides stable, predictable chip formation across turning, facing, and boring operations. With two usable cutting edges per insert, this is a screw-on style insert retained by a standard clamp screw through its center hole.
This insert is suited for general-purpose finish and semi-finish turning applications in both residential shop and production environments. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K). The LF chip breaker geometry supports light-to-medium feed rates with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, making it well matched for controlled-depth passes where surface finish and tool life consistency matter. It is typically installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC lathes and manual turning centers using compatible CCMT toolholders.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or rotating the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will fracture under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before securing the insert.
