The KENNAMETAL 5387627 is a CCMT-style turning insert designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a multilayer MTCVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN under the KCP25B grade designation, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of cutting conditions. The 80-degree diamond insert shape provides two cutting edges per insert. Key geometric parameters include a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 0.381-inch insert length, a 5/32-inch thickness, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees with a honed cutting edge. The LF chip breaker geometry is tuned for light-to-medium finishing passes.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces, covering ISO material codes P and K. It fits screw-on style toolholders accepting CCMT insert geometry with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning on both CNC and manual lathes in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. The maximum depth of cut is 0.090 inches. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both left- and right-hand toolholder pockets configured for CCMT seating.
Designed for screw-on CCMT toolholders accepting an 80-degree diamond insert with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter and CCMT32.51 geometry. Multi-use application covers turning, facing, and boring. Compatible with material grades C2, C3, C6, and C7. Minimum order quantity is 5 inserts; package quantity is 1.
Insert seating and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state before any toolholder work. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before placing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver and screw for the screw-on clamping method to avoid insert rocking or premature edge chipping. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker condition at each index to confirm proper seating.
