The KENNAMETAL 5348585 is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for high-hardness material machining. Carrying the industry designation CCGM32.52S0525MTCB1, this multi-tipped insert features a PVD-applied multilayer TiN and AlTiN coating over a PCBN substrate in manufacturer grade KBH20. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides two cutting edges per insert, each with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. With a 0.0313-inch corner radius and flat-top chip breaker geometry, it suits turning, facing, and boring operations where dimensional consistency and tool life on hardened workpieces are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for hard material applications, classified under ISO workpiece material group H, covering hardened steels and hard-turning applications typically ranging from 45 HRC and above. It seats in screw-on style toolholders and is compatible with both ANSI and ISO standard insert pockets. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning of hardened components in aerospace, automotive, and general precision machining environments. Multi-use application coverage includes turning, facing, and boring in a single insert geometry, reducing the need for tooling changeovers during a job.
Designed for screw-on style toolholders accepting CCGM-format inserts per ANSI size code 3252 and ISO size code 09T308. Suitable for use in turning, facing, and boring operations on hard materials. Conforms to both ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the screw-on clamp to toolholder specification without overtightening, which can fracture the PCBN tip. Confirm insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
