The KENNAMETAL 5330695 is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for high-performance machining of hard materials. Carrying the industry standard designation CNGA431S0525MT, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. The grade KBH20 PCBN substrate is finished with a multilayer PVD TiN/AlTiN nano-composite coating, producing a chamfered and honed cutting edge suited for continuous cuts in hardened steels and other H-group workpiece materials. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the flat-top chip breaker geometry supports turning, facing, and boring operations.
This insert is intended for use in demanding hard-turning applications where carbide tooling reaches its performance limits. Typical workpiece materials include hardened steels, hardened cast irons, and similar H15 and H25 material grades. The KENLOC series insert is held by clamp or pin mounting in compatible toolholders and runs as a neutral-hand insert, making it adaptable across common CNC turning centers and boring setups in both production and job-shop environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, automotive, die-and-mold, and general precision machining will encounter this insert in high-speed finishing and semi-finishing passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert conforming to ANSI code CNGA431 and ISO code CNGA120404. Suitable for use in KENLOC-series toolholders and any compatible holder accepting a CNGA-style insert with clamp or pin retention. Verified compatible workpiece material grades include H15 and H25 per the supplier specification.
Insert changes should be performed with the machine fully powered down and the spindle at rest. Use the appropriate torquing tool and seating procedure specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamp or locating pin — do not rely on feel alone to confirm seating. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before placing the new insert. Proper edge orientation and insert indexing should be confirmed before resuming cuts.
