The KENNAMETAL 5324782 is a solid carbide turning insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision finishing operations in CNC and manual turning applications. It carries an ISO code of KCGR110304R08FP and an ANSI insert code of NPGR, with a KCM25 grade that combines high toughness for steel and moderate wear-resistance for stainless steel. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating — TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 — applied via MTCVD process. The K-parallelogram 55-degree insert shape, positive rake angle of 15 degrees, and honed cutting edge style make it well-suited for tight-tolerance finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in clamp-style toolholders configured for right-hand cutting.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The FP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.060 inches (1.52 mm). The positive side clearance and 8-degree relief angle reduce cutting forces and help maintain surface finish on challenging materials. It is a multi-use insert appropriate for production environments where consistent performance across P- and M-category ISO workpiece materials is required.
Designed for use in clamp-style toolholders in the Kennametal Top Notch series that accept NPGR-style inserts with an inscribed circle of 0.250 inches. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring applications targeting steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials. Industry standard number NPGR51RFP.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert in the toolholder. Ensure the clamp and toolholder pocket are free of chips and debris before installing to maintain proper insert seating and avoid premature edge failure. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the FP chip breaker geometry.
