The KENNAMETAL 5324778 is a solid carbide turning insert in the NPGR51RFP geometry, coated with TiCN and Al2O3 via an MTCVD coating process under the KCP10 grade designation. This insert is engineered for right-hand turning operations and belongs to Kennametal's Top Notch series, designed for use on CNC lathes and turning centers. With an inscribed circle of 0.25 inches, an insert length of 0.457 inches, a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inches), and a maximum depth of cut of 0.060 inches, it delivers controlled material removal in precision turning applications. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended primarily for steel workpieces, classified under ISO material group P. With a positive rake geometry and an 8-degree relief angle, it is suited for finishing and light semi-finishing passes where surface quality and edge stability are critical. The 55-degree included angle of the NPGR style positions it for profiling and contour turning where access and clearance are operational priorities. The clamp-style holding method is compatible with Top Notch toolholders designed for this insert series.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders that accept NPGR51 inserts. Compatible with right-hand turning setups on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P). Consult Kennametal toolholder documentation to confirm holder compatibility before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or substitute non-OEM clamping hardware. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Indexing to the second cutting edge requires careful inspection of the used edge to confirm it is fully worn before rotating.
