The KENNAMETAL 5172844 is a solid carbide milling insert in the RPPT series, designed for indexable milling operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It features a round insert shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a TiAlN PVD coating applied over the carbide substrate to extend tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. The insert carries a KC725M grade designation and uses a honed T-Land cutting edge with a positive rake geometry. It is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments where consistent edge performance is required across multiple material classes.

This insert is suited for milling applications on steel (P-grade materials), stainless steel (M-grade), and superalloys and titanium (S-grade workpieces). It is compatible with the KSRM cutter series from KENNAMETAL and is intended for use in both roughing and finishing passes where a neutral-hand, round-profile insert provides uniform chip load distribution. Installation Notes

This insert is secured using a screw-type holding method; use the correct torque driver and insert screw specified for the KSRM cutter body to avoid over-torquing the pocket seat. Always index or replace inserts with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out. Inspect the cutter pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Worn or chipped inserts should be replaced before attempting further cuts to prevent cutter body damage.
