The KENNAMETAL 5109296 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation DNGG431FS and ISO designation DNGG150404FS, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and graded KCU10. This insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake angle of 12 degrees, a neutral hand orientation, and a honed cutting edge style. It carries four usable cutting edges and is engineered for finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Licensed HVAC and machining professionals handling high-wear applications in P, M, K, N, S, and H workpiece material categories will recognize the KCU10 grade as a high wear-resistance to moderate toughness performer across those material groups.
This insert is suited for light finishing passes in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. Applicable operations include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The FS chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts at shallow depths of cut, making it a reliable choice for close-tolerance work on steel and stainless steel components in both production and repair-shop environments. The insert fits KENLOC-series toolholders that accept DNGG-style inserts secured by a clamp and pin holding method.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting DNGG-style inserts with a clamp and pin holding method. Conforms to ANSI insert code DNGG431 and ISO insert code DNGG150404FS. Compatible with toolholders specifying an insert size code of 431 and a clearance code of N.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and all axes secured. Ensure the toolholder pocket and locating pin are free of chips and debris before seating the insert. Torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not substitute generic torque values. Inspect the cutting edge for micro-chipping before each use; a damaged edge on a finishing insert can compromise part surface finish and dimensional tolerance.
