The KENNAMETAL 5109135 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the G250GUP chip breaker designation and KCU25 grade, this insert features a PVD-applied AlTiN coating that supports cutting performance in a range of workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to standard toolholders without left or right bias. With a 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.175 inch (4.45 mm), it is suited for medium-depth grooving work in production and job-shop turning environments. The positive rake geometry promotes chip control and reduces cutting forces.
This insert belongs to the Series A4 product family and is sized at insert size 250 with a cutting height of 0.224 inch (5.69 mm) and an overall length of 1.181 inches. The GUP chip breaker geometry is intended for applications where consistent chip evacuation is critical, such as tight-tolerance grooving in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The KCU25 grade with a C2/C6 material grade classification makes it appropriate for general-purpose turning and grooving across a variety of shop conditions. This insert is a multi-use tool compatible with standard A4-series grooving toolholders.

Installation of carbide grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing any insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature failure.
