The KENNAMETAL 5090894 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG432MS geometry, grade KCU10, with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It belongs to the KENLOC series and features an 80-degree trigon (W-shape) with a neutral hand orientation and negative rake and side clearance. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, the corner radius is 0.03125 inches (1/32 inches), and insert thickness is 0.1875 inches. With six cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert delivers high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness across a range of workpiece materials. It is suited for roughing and medium machining operations and is compatible with clamp and pin holding methods.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials. The MS chip breaker geometry supports both roughing and medium machining, making the insert a versatile choice for production turning where consistent performance across multiple material categories is required. Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a safe, locked-out state. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket before engaging the clamp or pin to avoid seating errors that can cause edge breakage. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp mechanism for wear or debris before each insert change. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.2278 inches to maintain edge integrity.
