The KENNAMETAL 5090892 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG430MS configuration, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the KCU10 grade designation. It features an 80-degree trigon shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of approximately 0.004 inches. The insert carries a negative rake angle of 13 degrees and a negative side clearance, making it well suited for demanding metal-removal operations. With 6 cutting edges and an MS chip breaker geometry, it is designed for roughing to medium machining passes. HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trade machinists as well as general metalworking shops install this insert into compatible KENLOC toolholders for high-productivity turning work.
This insert is intended for use on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments. Its KCU10 grade is engineered to deliver high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials, with additional suitability for superalloys, titanium, aluminum, and nonferrous materials. The MS chip breaker geometry supports both roughing and medium machining operations including turning, facing, and boring. It is a multi-use insert appropriate for a wide range of material removal scenarios where consistent edge life is critical.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting WNMG-style inserts with ANSI insert code WNMG4302 and ISO insert code WNMG080401. Compatible holding methods include clamp and pin retention. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and aluminum workpieces.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician on a powered-down, locked-out CNC lathe or manual turning center. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Secure the insert using the appropriate clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification for the KENLOC system. Inspect the cutting edge for chips or damage before beginning each operation.
