The KENNAMETAL 5090810 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the industry designation TNMG431MS in the KCU10 grade. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, it is engineered for high wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys and titanium. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.866-inch length, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. With six cutting edges available per insert and a chip breaker profile optimized for roughing and medium machining operations, it is suited to CNC turning centers and manual lathes operated by machinists and tooling specialists in production environments.
This insert is designed for use in turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and superalloys and titanium. It carries an MS chip breaker designation, which targets roughing and medium-duty material removal where controlled chip flow and edge toughness are priorities. The neutral hand configuration makes it adaptable across standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders. The insert belongs to Kennametal's KENLOC series and conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with ISO code TNMG220404MS.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting TNMG-style inserts with a clamp or pin holding method, conforming to ANSI insert code TNMG431 and ISO insert code TNMG220404.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians following standard insert indexing procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Confirm the toolholder clamp and locating pin are free of chips and debris before securing the insert to prevent seating errors. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting tool offsets after insert change.
