The KENNAMETAL 5090689 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation DNMG432MS and ISO designation DNMG150408MS, finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and assigned manufacturer grade KCU10. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, a negative rake angle of 13 degrees, and a honed cutting edge style. With four usable cutting edges and an MS chip breaker geometry rated for roughing and medium machining, this insert is engineered to deliver high wear resistance alongside moderate toughness across a range of workpiece materials. It belongs to the KENLOC series and is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of five pieces.
This insert is intended for CNC turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, cast iron, and aluminum. The KCU10 grade with TiAlN PVD coating is optimized for high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness in P, M, K, N, S, and H workpiece material classifications. It is suited to production environments where a single insert geometry must handle varied material types without frequent grade changes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in both job shop and production settings are the primary installers and users.
Designed for KENLOC-series toolholders accepting DNMG432 (ISO DNMG150408) inserts with clamp or pin holding. Confirmed compatible workpiece material classifications include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous (N), superalloys and titanium (S), and hardened materials (H). Toolholder selection should match the DNMG insert style, negative rake, and 55-degree included angle per ANSI and ISO standards.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the toolholder secured before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate clamp or pin holding method specified for the KENLOC toolholder being used, and verify that the insert seats flush with no rocking before resuming cuts. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker condition at each index; do not continue machining on a chipped or worn edge, as this can damage the workpiece and toolholder seating surfaces.
