The KENNAMETAL 5067316 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drilling operations on machining centers, lathes, and drill presses. It carries the DFR insert style with an MD chipbreaker geometry and is manufactured in grade KCU25, a PVD-applied AlTiN-coated carbide grade suited for a wide range of steel and cast iron drilling applications. The insert has an 8 mm (0.3150 inch) inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.1492 inches, and a corner radius of 1/64 inch (0.0156 inches). The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right- and left-hand toolholders of the appropriate insert pocket style. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers of this consumable cutting insert.
This insert is intended for use in indexable drill bodies that accept DFR-style pockets sized for the 040304 insert size designation. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in ferrous materials such as low-alloy steel, carbon steel, and gray cast iron in both roughing and semi-finish operations. The MD chipbreaker geometry is suited for moderate chip loads and helps control chip formation in interrupted or continuous cuts. This insert is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces per order.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full lockout/tagout state before insert indexing or replacement. Use the correct insert screw torque driver specified by the drill body manufacturer to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Never use damaged or deformed insert screws, as improper clamping can cause insert movement under cutting loads.
