The KENNAMETAL 5066199 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert in the DFTHP style, designed for use in indexable insert drills where controlled chip breaking and wear resistance are critical. This trigon-shaped insert carries a KCU40 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied dual-layer TiN and TiAlN coating for thermal protection and extended tool life in demanding metal-cutting operations. The inscribed circle measures 12 millimeters (0.4724 inches), the insert thickness is 0.1875 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0313 inches (0.79 mm). It is a neutral-hand insert with an 84-degree included angle and a 9-degree relief angle. Cutting tool specialists and machining technicians install this insert in toolholders sized for the DFTHP seat geometry.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in ferrous and similar materials where a trigon geometry paired with an HP chipbreaker delivers predictable chip evacuation. It fits applications in production machining environments, both manual and CNC, where repeatable insert indexing is required. The insert size designation is 070408, and the through-hole diameter is 0.1732 inches (4.4 mm), used for the clamping screw. This insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for indexable drill toolholders requiring the DFTHP seat geometry with a 12 mm inscribed circle and 070408 insert size.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machining technician or cutting tool specialist. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's seating procedure — do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
