The KENNAMETAL 5066146 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drilling operations requiring precise, repeatable cutting performance. Carrying the DFTHP designation, it features an HP chipbreaker geometry paired with the KCU40 manufacturer grade and a PVD-applied TiN/TiAlN dual-layer coating. The insert has an 84-degree trigon shape with an inscribed circle of 12 mm (0.4724 inches), a thickness of 0.1875 inches, and a corner radius of 0.0313 inches (0.79 mm). It is a neutral-hand insert with an 8-degree relief angle. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals working with indexable drill bodies in CNC and manual drilling applications.
This insert is suited for indexable drilling operations in metalworking environments, including general-purpose hole-making on ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a TiN/TiAlN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection. The HP chipbreaker geometry is optimized for efficient chip formation and evacuation at moderate to high feed rates. Typical applications include production drilling on machining centers and lathes. The insert size designation is 070408, and it ships individually with a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use insert for indexable drill bodies accepting DFTHP-style trigon inserts with a 12 mm inscribed circle and 070408 insert size designation.
Insert seating and torque should be performed according to the drill body manufacturer specifications using the correct torque wrench and Torx or hex key. Ensure the drill body pocket is clean and free of debris before seating the insert to prevent improper clamping and premature edge failure. Always disengage the machine spindle and lock out power before changing inserts. Dispose of worn inserts in accordance with applicable shop safety protocols for carbide tooling.
