The KENNAMETAL 5066015 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert in the DFT style with a GD chipbreaker, designed for use in indexable insert drills operating in demanding metal-removal applications. Manufactured to the KCU40 grade, the insert features a PVD-applied dual coating of TiN and TiAlN, which provides heat resistance and wear protection during high-feed drilling. The 84-degree trigon shape with an 8 mm (0.3150 inches) inscribed circle and a 1/32 inch corner radius suits it for precision hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this insert as a replaceable cutting element in compatible modular drill bodies.
This insert is used in CNC machining centers, turning centers with live tooling, and manual drill press setups where indexable drill systems are employed. It suits production drilling in industrial and metalworking environments, including aerospace, automotive, and general fabrication shops. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right- and left-hand drill body configurations. The GD chipbreaker geometry promotes chip control during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. Insert size designation is 05T308.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excess clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated and indexed before returning the tool to service.
