The KENNAMETAL 4176113 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a PVD-applied AlTiN coating and is offered in a right-hand configuration with a 0.2500-inch (6.35 mm) cutting width and a 0.2500-inch (6.35 mm) maximum depth of cut. The KCU10 grade designation places this insert in the C3/C4 material grade range, suitable for demanding machining of steel, stainless, and cast materials. A full-radius geometry with a 0.1252-inch (3.18 mm) corner radius produces a clean groove profile. Clamped insert holding secures the insert rigidly in compatible Top Notch toolholders during interrupted or continuous cuts.
This insert is intended for metal-cutting professionals operating CNC turning equipment in job shop, production, or tool room environments. It is sized as an NR-style insert, insert size 4125, and fits Top Notch series toolholders accepting that seat size. The AlTiN PVD coating provides oxidation resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures, making it appropriate for dry or near-dry machining applications where heat generation is a concern. Machinists and tooling specialists handling finish or semi-finish grooving work will find the full-radius profile useful for producing grooves with controlled surface finish.
Designed for use in Top Notch series clamping toolholders accepting NR-style inserts at insert seat size 4. The MSC/Manufacturer cross-reference number for this insert style is NR4125R/L.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and verify the clamp secures the insert without rocking before initiating a cut. Inspect the insert seat and clamp mechanism for chips or debris prior to seating a new insert, as contamination can affect insert position and surface finish. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for clamp torque and insert indexing procedures.
