The KENNAMETAL 4176112 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the NR4125K insert style designation with a KCU10 manufacturer grade and an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating for improved wear resistance and heat tolerance at the cutting edge. The insert delivers a 0.25-inch (6.35 mm) cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 0.25 inches (6.35 mm), and a full-radius corner profile with a 0.1252-inch (3.18 mm) corner radius. It is configured for left-hand cutting and is held in place by a clamp-style insert seat.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting operations on a range of workpiece materials, consistent with C3 and C4 material grade classifications, which cover cast iron and non-ferrous materials as well as harder ferrous applications. The Top Notch series is a widely used platform in production turning environments where repeatable groove geometry and secure clamping are required. The K chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation during these operations. This insert is typically installed and changed by machinists or CNC turning specialists in job shop or production machining environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders accepting a size 4 insert seat. Compatible with left-hand Top Notch toolholder configurations. The MSC/Manufacturer cross-reference number is NR4125R/LK.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC turning specialist. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate Top Notch clamping screw and torque driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamp. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure accurate positioning and secure clamping.
