The KENNAMETAL 4176092 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NGD insert style in the Top Notch series, it carries a KCU10 grade designation and an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process. The insert delivers a 0.25-inch (6.35 mm) cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 0.50 inch (12.70 mm). A K-style chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during interrupted and continuous grooving cuts. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working in production and job-shop environments.
The 4176092 is suited for grooving applications in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where tight tolerances and consistent chip evacuation are required. The right-hand orientation places it in standard right-hand toolholders common to most CNC turning setups. The Top Notch series uses a clamp-style insert holding method, seating the insert securely in compatible Top Notch grooving toolholders. The insert size designation is 4250, with an insert seat size of 4, fitting the corresponding Top Notch seat geometry. Material grade ratings of C3 and C4 indicate suitability for general-purpose and harder material grooving operations.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept insert seat size 4 and the NGD insert style. Compatible toolholder reference from supplier data: NGD4250R/LK.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before installation, as debris under the insert seat will affect cutting geometry and insert life. Verify toolholder clamp torque and insert orientation against the toolholder manufacturer's specification before resuming operation.
