The KENNAMETAL 4176090 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Designated insert style NGD4250K with manufacturer grade KCU10, it features an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, providing thermal resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting applications. The insert is configured for left-hand operation with a cutting width of 0.25 inches (6.35 mm) and a maximum depth of cut of 0.50 inches (12.70 mm). A corner radius of 0.0225 inches (0.57 mm) and a K-style chip breaker geometry support chip control in medium to heavy grooving passes. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This insert is suited for grooving, parting, and profiling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials in both production and job-shop environments. The KCU10 grade with AlTiN finish is appropriate for interrupted cuts and materials requiring toughness combined with wear resistance. The Top Notch series uses a clamp-style insert holding method with an insert seat size of 4, compatible with Top Notch toolholders accepting NGD-style inserts. The insert size designation is 4250, and the included angle is 55 degrees. Cutting height is 0.453 inches (11.51 mm) and overall width is 0.256 inches (6.50 mm). Maximum depth of cut range is 0.30 to 1.00 inches (10.00 to 20.00 mm).
Designed for use in Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders that accept NGD-style inserts with an insert seat size of 4. Compatible with toolholder configurations accepting the NGD4250R/LK designation.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate clamp screw torque driver for the Top Notch clamping system and ensure the insert seats fully and cleanly against the pocket before clamping. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris that could affect seating accuracy before each insert change.
