Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 4176086 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the NGD4125K insert style designation with a KCU10 grade — a PVD-applied AlTiN-coated carbide grade suited for medium to tough cutting conditions. The cutting width is 0.125 inches (3.18 mm) and the maximum depth of cut reaches 0.250 inches (6.35 mm). The insert seats using a clamp-style holding method and is oriented for right-hand operation. This insert is part of the Top Notch series and is intended for installation by machinists and toolroom technicians on production or job-shop turning equipment.

This insert is used in turning center and CNC lathe applications requiring controlled groove geometry and repeatable depth on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The K chip breaker geometry supports chip control in medium-depth grooving passes. The 55-degree included angle and 0.0075-inch (0.19 mm) corner radius suit applications where groove geometry tolerances are tight. It is appropriate for both production runs and maintenance machining environments where consistent groove width and depth are required.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction with PVD AlTiN coating for wear resistance and thermal stability
  • KCU10 manufacturer grade rated for medium to demanding cutting conditions (Material Grade C3 / C4)
  • Cutting width of 0.125 inches (3.18 mm) with a maximum depth of cut of 0.250 inches (6.35 mm)
  • K chip breaker geometry for effective chip control in grooving applications
  • Clamp-style insert holding method for secure, repeatable seating in Top Notch compatible toolholders
  • Right-hand orientation; 55-degree included angle with a 0.0075-inch (0.19 mm) corner radius

Compatibility

Designed for use in Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders accepting Insert Seat Size 4 inserts. Compatible toolholders must accommodate the NGD insert style. Refer to KENNAMETAL Top Notch toolholder specifications to confirm seat size and clamping compatibility before installation.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Disengage the machine spindle and remove all stored energy before changing inserts. Use the appropriate clamp screw torque per the toolholder manufacturer's guidelines — do not over-torque, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or wear before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and accurate cutting geometry.
