The KENNAMETAL 4176063 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Running in the Top Notch series, this insert carries the NG3125K geometry with a KCU10 grade — a PVD-applied AlTiN coating engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The cutting width is 0.1252 inches with a maximum depth of cut of 0.150 inches. A neutral rake angle and 0-degree lead angle suit it to straight plunge grooving applications. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a replaceable cutting edge in compatible Top Notch toolholders.
This insert is suited for grooving operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a sharp, coated carbide edge is required. The K chip breaker geometry controls chip flow in medium-duty grooving passes. With a cutting height of 0.344 inches and a corner radius of 0.0075 inches, the 4176063 handles precision groove profiles where dimensional accuracy is critical. It is configured for right-hand cutting and is sized at insert size 3125. Typical applications include external groove turning on production and job-shop CNC lathes running interrupted or continuous cuts.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders accepting NG-style inserts at insert size 3125. Compatible toolholder reference includes the MSC/Manufacturer Number NG3125R/LK designation. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping style before installation.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down the machine and lock out the spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamping — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder seat for chips or debris before inserting, and confirm the insert is fully seated and locked before resuming cutting operations.
