The KENNAMETAL 4176061 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the KCU10 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during interrupted cuts and general turning applications. The insert features a left-hand orientation, a 3.18 mm cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm. A 0.19 mm corner radius and a K-style chip breaker geometry help control chip flow in a range of workpiece materials. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert into compatible Top Notch clamp-style toolholders as a direct replacement when worn inserts are swapped at the machine.
This insert is suited for grooving, profiling, and light parting work on ferrous and non-ferrous materials in both production and job-shop environments. The NG style with a 55-degree included angle accommodates angled groove profiles. The clamp-style holding method provides rigid, repeatable seating in Top Notch series toolholders, making it appropriate for high-volume turning applications where consistent groove dimensions are required. Material grades C3 and C4 indicate suitability across a range of cast iron and non-ferrous applications.
Designed for use in Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept the NG3125 insert size. The MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number is NG3125R/LK. Verify toolholder hand and insert pocket dimensions before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully stopped, spindle locked, and all energy sources isolated per your facility lockout/tagout procedure. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for debris or wear before seating the new insert. Confirm insert orientation matches the toolholder hand before resuming operation.
