The KENNAMETAL 4176051 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured in the NG3088 style and carrying the KCU10 grade designation, this insert features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD)-applied AlTiN coating for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert delivers a cutting width of 2.24 mm (0.0882 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm (0.0941 inches), making it well-suited for controlled grooving in steel, stainless, and similar workpiece materials. It is right-hand oriented and belongs to the Top Notch series, which uses a clamp-style holding method. Machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for use in Top Notch series toolholders on CNC turning equipment in both production and job-shop environments. The 2.24 mm cutting width and 2.39 mm maximum depth of cut place this insert in the light-to-medium grooving range, appropriate for close-tolerance groove work on small-to-medium diameter workpieces. The 55-degree included angle and 0.19 mm corner radius support accurate groove geometry and surface finish. Insert size designation is 3088, and the MSC/Manufacturer cross-reference number is NG3088R/L. This is a metric-measurement insert sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use in Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders. Cross-reference manufacturer number NG3088R/L. Confirm toolholder pocket specifications and insert size 3088 acceptance before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC turning technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe, locked position before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate clamp screw torque as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamp or use improvised clamping hardware. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before mounting to ensure proper seating and cutting-edge repeatability.
