The KENNAMETAL 4176035 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KCU10 grade designation with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted or continuous cuts. The insert is configured for left-hand cutting with a 1.19 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 1.91 mm. A corner radius of 0.19 mm and a K-style chip breaker geometry help manage chip flow in medium to finishing passes. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in job shops or production environments install this insert into compatible Top Notch clamp-style toolholders.
This insert is suited for grooving applications on steel, stainless steel, and similar workpiece materials where a PVD AlTiN coating provides the appropriate edge protection. The NG-style insert with a 3047 insert size fits clamp-style holders designed for the Top Notch system. It is used in both manual and CNC lathe environments where precise groove width control and repeatable depth are required. The left-hand orientation determines holder compatibility, so confirm hand orientation before ordering. The K chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium stock removal in grooving and parting operations.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders accepting NG3047 insert size in left-hand orientation. Confirm holder hand designation and insert seat geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians during lathe tooling setup. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate clamp screw and torque driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten or use substitute fasteners. Verify insert seating and clamp contact before resuming cutting operations.
