The KENNAMETAL 4175976 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to insert style NRP with size designation 3094, it carries a KCU10 grade designation and an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating applied via PVD process. The cutting width is 4.78 mm (0.1882 inches) and the maximum depth of cut is 3.81 mm (0.1500 inches). The full-radius geometry with a corner radius of 2.39 mm (0.0941 inches) and a positive rake angle make it suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where chip control and surface quality matter. This insert is left-hand orientation and held in place by a clamp-style toolholder.
This insert is intended for use in metal cutting applications on lathes and turning centers where external grooving, undercuts, and parting are required. The Top Notch series is a well-established platform used in production environments, including both job shops and high-volume machining operations. The KCU10 carbide grade combined with the AlTiN PVD coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability when cutting a range of workpiece materials classified under material grades C3 and C4. This is a left-hand insert, so toolholder and insert pocket orientation must be confirmed before ordering. Sold individually; minimum order quantity is 5 units.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept NRP-style inserts in size 3094. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and hand orientation before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state before any insert change. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamp; do not overtighten, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under uneven clamping load. Confirm insert seating in the pocket is flush and square before resuming cuts. Inspect the clamp and pocket for chips or debris before each insert change.
