The KENNAMETAL 4175946 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision external grooving and profiling on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the KCU10 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, delivering thermal resistance and wear protection in demanding cuts. The insert features a 4.83 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 5.08 mm, and a positive rake geometry with an NP insert style. It is installed using a clamp-style holder and is suited for right-hand cutting operations. Machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments select this insert for consistent groove geometry and edge life on steel and alloy workpieces.
This insert is configured for metric measurement and carries an NP3002K insert style designation with a size classification of 3002. The 45-degree lead angle and 0.25 mm corner radius (0.0035 inch) support controlled chip formation via the K chip breaker. With a cutting height of 8.74 mm and an overall width of 4.98 mm, it fits Top Notch series toolholders designed for the NP3002 insert size. It is appropriate for use on ferrous metals where PVD-coated carbide grades in the C3 and C4 material grade range are indicated. This insert is sold individually and is subject to a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders accepting NP3002 insert size. The manufacturer cross-reference number is NP3002RK. Verify holder compatibility with the insert size and clamping style before installation.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed away from the work zone before handling or seating the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification listed in the holder documentation. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or wear before each insert change to maintain accurate cutting geometry.
